Always Remember, Never Forget

Saturday 7 June to Sunday 22 June 2014

Galleries 1, 2 and 3

Always Remember, Never Forget sees fourteen North East artists in a collaborative exhibition which begins the Durham Art Gallery First World War Centenary programme. Taking inspiration from items in the DLI collections including letters from the front, soldiers uniforms and the landscape of the trenches they have produced contemporary responses.

The result is a diverse multidisciplinary exhibition combining painting, photography, installation, film, performance and creative writing. The work is united by a desire to express the contrasting sentiments evoked by the war and its legacy, such as hope and horror, devastation and honour. The artists participating are supported by Durham Creatives, an initiative designed to help creative practitioners in the region set up successful creative businesses. Durham Creatives is a Business Durham initiative funded by Durham County Council and The European Regional Development Fund.

#Repfest 31 Day Drawing Challenge!

RULES:
• Characters will be from across fiction and creative media – tv, movies, animation, comics, videogames, etc. Both indie/creator-owned and mainstream characters will be making an appearance!
• I’m going to try to limit myself to one character per series, but characters from sequels or spin-off series within the same franchise are up for grabs. (for example, I can only pick one character from the Doctor Who series, but I can also have one character from Torchwood and/or The Sarah Jane Chronicles.)
• Characters must be canonically POC, so there won’t be any racebends or reimaginings of non-POC characters.
• Lastly, this is a fun little side project and a chance for me to show some love for some of my favorite fictional characters so I’m going to have fun with this and I hope everyone enjoys what I come up with!

#repfest  #represent fest  #repfest drawing challenge  #representation  #diversity  #media

Ok guys, today is the 1st of May which means the first day of #representfest! So to celebrate racial and ethnic diversity in the media, I’ll be attempting a 31 day drawing challenge. Every day throughout May I’ll be attempting to sketch a different fictional character, whether they’re from film, tv, animation, comics and video games.
This will be a very subjective list of my personal favourite characters who are also people of colour, so if you don’t see someone you like or someone you think stands out as an exceptional character then it may be because I’m not be aware of that particular series of I don’t know enough about the actual character to call them a favourite.
Again, I must stress that this will be an attempt, because as much as I’d love to have a new drawing ready every day, I do have deadlines which will be taking priority and if I miss a day or two then I apologise.

So wish me luck! Anyone who would like to join in Repfest or would like to know more, check out the tumblr page http://repfest.tumblr.com/
