Always Remember, Never Forget
Saturday 7 June to Sunday 22 June 2014
Galleries 1, 2 and 3
Always Remember, Never Forget sees fourteen North East artists in a collaborative exhibition which begins the Durham Art Gallery First World War Centenary programme. Taking inspiration from items in the DLI collections including letters from the front, soldiers uniforms and the landscape of the trenches they have produced contemporary responses.
The result is a diverse multidisciplinary exhibition combining painting, photography, installation, film, performance and creative writing. The work is united by a desire to express the contrasting sentiments evoked by the war and its legacy, such as hope and horror, devastation and honour. The artists participating are supported by Durham Creatives, an initiative designed to help creative practitioners in the region set up successful creative businesses. Durham Creatives is a Business Durham initiative funded by Durham County Council and The European Regional Development Fund.
